We are currently teaching four block classes per year, during the months of Feburary, May, August and November.

This year we have had excellent birth outcomes for our class participants. We have had overwhelmingly positive feedback from the women and their partners who have attended our classes. We have also received support and encouragement for our antenatal education from local midwifery groups.

We encourage debate and discussion in our classes and explore decision making. Our information is research based and holistic. We aim to empower our class participants to make good decisions for themselves and their babies. We encourage networking amongst our groups and maintain contact and support upon completion of the classes. We also hold regular coffee-mornings for women who have attended, or are wishing to attend our classes.

An important part of our classes is preparing our participants for parenting and we support and encourage positive parenting. We discuss the stresses and challenges of parenting and where to seek help and support.

Our antenatal classes provide a unique service for women in the Kapiti area, they differ from other classes offered locally in that we cater not only to first-time parents, but also second or even third time parents wishing for a more natural approach to childbirth. This mix allows for great discussion with the multitude of experience shared. We have also supported single women through our classes and they have found our class atmosphere more welcoming than other more traditional classes.

Our classes focus on supporting women to birth locally in Kapiti and in the local birthing unit. It is important to us to support women who do not wish to travel outside our local community to give birth. We also feel that by providing support and support networks for our class groups we fulfil an important community role in supporting parents and positive parenting.
