International Midwives day
Happy International Midwives day!!
Yesterday Tanya, Jodi, Toni and I attended a screening of The Business of Being Born hosted by the Wellington Homebirth Association. This was also an early celebration of Midwives day.
The movie was very powerful. Although we are very privileged in New Zealand to have so many midwives working with women, we need to protect and promote normal birth. Despite a system that is seen by many overseas to be an ideal, we still have a soaring c-section rate and many women are traumatised by highly medicalised births.
We hope to be able to host a screening of the movie later in the year so that everyone in Kapiti gets a chance to enjoy it!
Kapiti Birthing would like to thank all those wonderful wise midwives who a guardians of normal birth – especially those in our local community!
